1. Where is Shoshanna?
Oh. Em. Effin. Gee. Where has Shosh been all season? In the beginning Shoshanna's story line was set up for her to be slutty in her final year of college. After almost two seasons of dating 'Old Man Ray', Shosh finally broke free and was ready for her sexual awakening. Shoshanna is arguably one of the funniest characters on the show seeing how every line out of her mouth is either outrageous or absolutely makes no sense. The idea of her character being 22 years old, but talking like a 13 year old teenager going through puberty, makes her one of the most stand out characters in television. This season we only saw Shoshanna get with a few guys, stress out about graduating and deal with Jessa's drug problem. The best Shoshanna moment of the season is when we learned that she is actually a mean and honest drunk. Who would have thought!
The idea of Jessa on drugs is nothing groundbreaking, but her in rehab causing problems for everyone else trying to get help is. The way her story line started off this season also had much potential. Hannah thought that breaking her out of rehab would help her and it didnt. Jessa tried to get her life together by having her first job ever which consisted of working at a baby boutique selling baby clothes to spoiled rich New York moms. Her crass English whit when dealing with those customers was fun to see, but in typical Jessa fashion, an old druggie friend comes back in her life and completely ruins the progress she made. We then saw a coked out Jessa once again which made us all love her again. Jessa's up and down fight with her addiction is a story line that took a while to actually take off and the past few episodes it has continued to take a backseat. Jessa only gets about five minutes of screen time during each episode, which again, is not okay.
Marnie has been an unlikeable character since day one. The problem is no one really likes Marnie, but we all can relate to her on some personal level. This season after Charlie left her after they made pizzas, really how often did we hear the break up story, she had a hard time finding herself again. She did not have a job, she did get a new apartment and she expressed an interest in being a serious singer which everyone took as a joke. This season Marnie just whined about everything and felt that her friends really did not care about her. She was able to break out and get a job in an art gallery, as an assistant, and she also is starting to sing again. Oh and she's also getting off with 'Old Man Ray'! Ray is the only one who will tell Marnie how she really is and Marnie finds comfort in that. She is her complete bitchy self around Ray, but she uses him for a shoulder to cry on and to sleep with when its convenient for her. Ray sometimes mistakes those actions for Marnie actually liking him, which leads to very awkward conversations between the two.
In the beginning Lena Dunham exposed herself on the show to prove a point to people who were judgmental of other people's bodies. Dunham does not have the model body and she wanted to show people that it is perfectly okay to be safe in your own skin. That was fine in the beginning, but I have seen so much naked Lena Dunham that every time I see her that is all I can see and its becoming scarring. She is naked all the damn time. Put some damn clothes on like a normal human being. I mean we have seen her boobs more times then a person can count, in lingerie, in bikinis, oh and yeah just full frontal nudity. Enough. Save it for the drum man for FUN please.
The one thing that has always made me angry with this series is that there is more then one episode a season that is dedicated to Lena Dunham's character Hannah. Every show has a main character that the series is centered around, but Hannah is an extremely unlikeable character and this season was hard to watch because her character is sometimes more annoying then Marnie. And what is more annoying then Marnie and Charlie's broken relationship...Hannah and Adam's. This entire season was also dedicated to how they are finally a stable couple yet at the same time they aren't. Adam got his big break acting on Broadway and he sees Hannah as a distraction and wants to spend time apart. They are constantly going back and forth and since Hannah is selfish, she is jealous that Adam is doing so well. I used to root for these two, but this season was too much of a Hannah and Adam overload that I would like to watch them sink...big time.
